Lehenga

लहंगा
leh-HUN-gah

Long, full Indian skirt, usually worn with a fitted blouse and dupatta for festive occasions.

Meaning & usage

A lehenga is a long, often heavily embroidered skirt worn with a fitted blouse (choli) and a draped scarf (dupatta). Together this is the lehenga-choli, the default Indian wedding outfit for women — and for many guests at one. Bridal lehengas can be staggeringly elaborate and weighty, layered with zardozi work, gota patti, sequins and pearls.

In a sentence

She had her bridal lehenga fitted three times before the date.
