Bharat (or Bhārat) is the indigenous Sanskrit name for India and one of the two official names in the Constitution — "India, that is Bharat". The word derives from the legendary king Bharata of Hindu epic tradition; some derive it from a Vedic tribal name. In Hindi and many other Indian languages it is the everyday name for the country; "India" is the English-language form.
