Meaning & usage

The Mahabharata is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being the Ramayana. It narrates the story of the Kurukshetra War between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, and includes philosophical and devotional material, such as a discussion of the four 'goals of life'. It is traditionally attributed to the sage Vyasa.
