Filmi

फिल्मी
FIL-mee

Adjective: in the style of a Bollywood film — melodramatic, song-and-dance, larger than life.

Meaning & usage

Filmi is a Hindi adjective formed from the English "film", meaning "of films" — and specifically of Bollywood films. Applied to a person, gesture or scene it means melodramatic, exaggerated, theatrical, like something out of a movie: a "filmi entrance", "filmi emotion", "filmi villainy". The cognate noun "filmi music" or "filmi songs" simply means the songs from the films, which form their own enormous popular genre.
